Terms of service

The plain-language terms for using receive.link.

Last updated: June 26, 2026

By using receive.link, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the service.

What receive.link is

receive.link gives you a private link that anyone can send files to, where only you can open them. You create a link with a passkey and an email address; the people who send to you need neither. Files are encrypted end to end on the sender's device and can only be opened with your passkey.

No account, and your responsibility

There is no traditional account or password. Your passkey is your key. Keep it safe: if you lose access to your passkey, your files cannot be recovered, by us or by anyone, because we never hold your keys. You are responsible for the security of your passkey and for the files you choose to receive.

Acceptable use

You agree to use receive.link only for lawful purposes. You may not use it to receive, store, or distribute content that is illegal, infringes someone's rights, or that you do not have the right to handle; to harass or harm others; or to attack, overload, probe, or work around the limits of the service.

If a link is reported, or our abuse signals flag it, we may turn that link off and block the source. Because files are encrypted, we cannot see their contents or screen them in advance, so enforcement is reactive: it relies on reports, on legal takedowns for a specific link, and on the limited signals we can observe, such as volume and rate.

Paid service

receive.link is a paid service, metered by how much you download:

  • Your first 1 GB of downloads is free.
  • After that, you pay $0.01 per gigabyte you download. You are charged once per file, so re-downloading a file you have already paid for is free.
  • You pay by adding credit in advance through our payment processor, Stripe. Charges are drawn from your credit balance as you download.
  • Prices and free allowances may change. We will show current pricing before you pay.

Prepaid credit is non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, has no cash value, and is for your use of receive.link only. Any taxes are your responsibility.

The service is provided "as is"

receive.link is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any file will always be delivered or remain available. Encrypted files expire after 7 days, so download them in time.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, receive.link and the people who operate it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost, delayed, or unrecoverable files, lost data, or lost profits, arising from your use of (or inability to use) receive.link. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim.

Open source

receive.link's code is released under the GNU General Public License, version 3.0 or later. See the License page for details.

Changes and ending your use

We may update these terms; continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. You can stop using receive.link at any time and turn off your links. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms or use the service unlawfully.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to them will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming.
